Now, here’s a fun story that I thought you guys would get a kick out of…
A couple weeks ago I went speed dating for the first time and, well, well, well, it sure was an experience!
I had a lot of fun and if you are looking for dating practice, meeting new people or just spending an interesting couple of hours with new people you should give it a shot. It can be even more fun if you take a girlfriend or two along with you.
Setup
There are a number of speed dating companies here in NYC and some of the dating events are focused (i.e. - Jewish singles from age 25 to 35 or Indian singles aged 23 to 30) but the one I went to was not. It was only bounded by a very broad age range – 25 to 40, I think it was. Sooo… needless to say it was a VERY multi-cultural mixed bag.
Basically the upper level of this lounge was set up with couches and chairs up against the walls and little stools in front of each chair/couch. Ladies got to stay stationary in the chairs and guys were the ones who changed spots. I was definitely glad that I didn't have to move! Anyhoo, each date was 5 minutes and then the organizer sounds a gong as the signal to end each date and keep it moving.
We also got evaluation sheets where we could write down our dates' names and a few details to help us remember who was who, which turned out to be helpful because we ended up with 16 dates! There was also a finger food/mingling break after the first 8
dates, which was MUCH needed because all those dates can get tiring!
After the mini-dates, you go onto the company’s website and check off the names of
anyone you'd be interested in maintaining contact with and if they also checked you off (gotta be mutual!) then you both get each other's email addresses. Simple enough, right?
Well, this post is getting long, so I’ll end it here. That's it for the setup, stay tuned tomorrow for the lowdown on my (quite amusing) actual dates…
:)
